There are many state agencies that provide tools that support Ohio businesses in making strategic investments in their operations. Partners like the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority (OAQDA) and the Treasurer of State (TOS) offer a variety of financing and incentive programs to businesses that reduce costs, assist in retention and expansion efforts, and drive business success.
Over several decades, the Ohio Air Quality Development Authority and the Treasurer of State have quietly become some of Ohio’s most useful - and most overlooked – statewide economic development tools that unite private capital with a public purpose in benefiting local communities.
An independent state agency, OAQDA partners with Ohio businesses to finance cleaner-air and energy-saving upgrades on projects financed with air quality revenue bonds utilized by private banks and lenders. Additionally, the issuance of these bonds provides qualified projects additional incentives with tax exemptions, including sales and use tax, partial property tax, and bond interest income.
Everything from HVAC and lighting retrofits in workforce housing, behind-the-meter energy generation for manufacturers, industrial waste facility transfer stations, and a bit of everything in between - projects that cut energy costs, retain jobs, and free up capital at the same time.
The Treasurer of State has several prominent programs, including Buckeye Business Advantage, which helps Ohio small businesses access financing through participating financial institutions by supporting reduced interest rates on small business loans. The program helps Ohio small businesses invest in things like equipment, inventory, facility improvements, and other operational needs, freeing up capital and supporting long-term business success.
