Community Rooted Economic Inclusion

This webinar is complimentary for OEDA members but registration is required.

Despite billions of dollars spent on place-based initiatives over the past 25 years, the number of high-poverty neighborhoods in the U.S. doubled between 1980 and 2010—and remains persistently high as metro areas seek to recover from the COVID-19 economic crisis. This webinar will focus on a new playbook from the Brookings Institution’s Bass Center for Transformative Placemaking and LISC, Community-rooted economic inclusion: A strategic action playbook, that argues that now is the time for community, city, and regional leaders to advance bold place-based solutions that foster long-overdue investment and opportunity within disinvested communities—and to do so in a way that benefits existing residents and small businesses within these communities. The webinar will feature a presentation by the Playbook's authors as well as a discussion how cities can adapt and tailor the approach on-the-ground. Panelists will include representatives of Brookings Institution, the Cities of Los Angeles and Cleveland and more.
