The Ohio Economic Development Association is proud to partner with JobsOhio and Ohio University Voinovich School in the Ohio Economic Development Institute, the state’s premier professional development program for economic development professionals.
Course Description:
This two-day course on line course will provide attendees with a strong understanding of the finance and incentive programs that are available and utilized in Ohio. Through interactive case studies, discussions, and speakers, the course will also give students the opportunity to work through real-world examples of how incentives are utilized. This will include both program details and how the programs are utilized in practice. The course will cover how the private capital markets work, public and private sector financing programs (such as JobsOhio, SBA, USDA, New Markets Tax Credits, etc.) along with incentives such as property and income tax credits, tax abatements, and grants at both the state and federal levels.
The on-line course will include extensive opportunities to network with presenters and panelists, as well as being enhanced with discussion about how the COVID 19 pandemic could impact capital markets, public and private sector financing programs, and the ability of businesses to obtain financing.
The Ohio Certified Economic Developer (OhioCED) is state-specific credential for economic developers in Ohio. All professional development and continuing education programs offered though the Ohio Economic Development Association (OEDA) and/or through its advanced learning program, the Ohio Economic Development Institute (OEDI), provide credit for earning and maintaining the Ohio Certified Economic Developer.
OEDA is an approved provider for several other organizations and some of its education and professional development programs may provide credit for earning or maintaining other professional credentials or meeting professional licensure requirements. These may include but are not limited to lawyers, planners, architects and development finance professionals. OEDA and OEDI programs approved for continuing education will include that information in the program description.
Prerequisites: There is a prerequisite for all Institute courses. Attendees must have completed The Ohio Basic Economic Development Course or have three years of economic or community development experience. Individuals who will be taking the Ohio Basic Economic Development Course in April 2021 may register for the courses.
OEDI courses are stand-alone, though they serve as the pathway to the Ohio Certified Economic Development (OhioCED) Credential. Members are encouraged to register for multiple courses to received special discounted pricing.
AICP members can earn Certification Maintenance (CM) credits for this activity. More information about AICP's CM program can be found at planning.org/cm.
CLE members can earn Continuing Legal Education (CLE) credits for this activity. The OEDI - Economic Development Finance and Incentives course is approved by the Supreme Court of Ohio Commission.
