The Ohio Economic Development Association is proud to have partnered with JobsOhio and Ohio University Voinovich School to create the Ohio Economic Development Institute, the state’s premier professional development program for economic development professionals.

Course Description:  This two-day course will focus on both the program and practice of working with existing companies in Ohio, developing longstanding professional relationships, understanding company risks and opportunities, connecting companies to vital resources, and coordinating with JobsOhio and the JobsOhio Network for company visits. The course will also cover establishing and managing an effective retention and expansion in a community, aligning with JobsOhio sector team efforts, and collaborating with nearby communities.

The OEDI Retention & Expansion Course interactive delivery model helps ensure participants will leave with immediately applicable knowledge and build their professional network through group activities.  Unlike traditional lecture-style, this course focuses on participant engagement and interaction.  And, it provides a forum for economic development professionals to share information and build relationship with the best in the industry.

The Ohio Certified Economic Developer (OhioCED) is state-specific credential for economic developers in Ohio.  All professional development and continuing education programs offered though the Ohio Economic Development Association (OEDA) and/or through its advanced learning program, the Ohio Economic Development Institute (OEDI), provide credit for earning and maintaining the Ohio Certified Economic Developer.

OEDA is an approved provider for several other organizations and some of its education and professional development programs may provide credit for earning or maintaining other professional credentials or meeting professional licensure requirements. These may include but are not limited to lawyers, planners, architects and development finance professionals.  OEDA and OEDI programs approved for continuing education will include that information in the program description.

Prerequisites: There is a prerequisite for all Institute courses.  Attendees must have completed The Ohio Basic Economic Development Course or have three years of economic or community development experience.  Individuals who will be taking the Ohio Basic Economic Development Course in April 2020 may register for the courses.

OEDI courses are stand-alone, though they serve as the pathway to the Ohio Certified Economic Development (OhioCED) Credential.  Members are encouraged to register for multiple courses to received special discounted pricing.
